WHAT IS A MEDI-SPA?
The word “Spa” is an eighteenth century term that derived from a village in Belgium called Spa. The area is known for its mineral hot springs and people came to take advantage of the waters to treat various illnesses and disorders. A hair salon became a “day spa” by offering a manicure, pedicure and facial. A day spa became a “medi-spa” by adding a clinical esthetician, nurse or medical technician trained by manufactures to do chemical peels, micro-dermabrasion or hair removal. A growing number of dermatologist, plastic surgeons, and chiropractors have either affiliated their practices with day and destination spas or have expanded their practices to offer treatments like medical micro-dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, augmentation, and liposuction in a “ gentler spa environment” thus creating a type of “medi-spa”.
